The National Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum began the voting process today for the 2010 Player inductees. Among the 24 retired professional players who contributed to the growth of soccer in the U.S. are four D.C. United players. Raul Diaz Arce, Marco Etcheverry, Roy Lassiter and Earnie Stewart are all on the ballot. Former Head Coach Peter Nowak is also a nominee.
Voters in the player election include selected members of the media, Hall of Famers, past and present U.S. Men's and Women's National Team coaches, MLS and WPS coaches of four or more years tenure, and a select group of soccer administrators. The results will be announced in early 2010.

I am surprised that no fullbacks or goalkeepers are on list of nominess for HOF. After all, isn't
the heart of most team sports recognized to be defense?

Agreed. Other then Etch, and probably Novak, I'm surprised that anyone from our old defense is there. Some of our Mids were detrimental to Etches success.
