El Diablo wins debut with Bolivian team

United legend Marco Antonio Etcheverry debuted as the Head Coach for Bolivian side Oriente Petrolero on Sunday, November 1. Coaching his hometown team, El Diablo earned a 1-0 win in his first game of the Playoffs against rival Blooming. Oriente knocked out Blooming with a 2-1 aggregate score in the home and away series. Etcheverry and Oriente then faced San Jose Oruro this Saturday in the quarterfinal round but suffered a 0-2 loss. The second leg is scheduled to be played at Oriente on Saturday.
Etcheverry made his coaching debut in the Ecuadorian League with Aucas earlier this year but had to leave due to the team's financial troubles. Founded in 1955, the Santa Cruz team has won three League championships.

El Diablo should be the next DCU COACH!

His a huge legend with DC United, I was never a big fan of him...But I believe when we get a new coach we should offer him a job as an assistant coach to see what he can bring. I have no doubt that he can bring a new look for DCU! When he played he directed most of the plays on the field and he could control a game. My opinion bring him in the coaching staff and let him have some control. I would be happy to see what he can bring to the table. ALL UNITED!!!

The 1st season (1996!), it was staggeringly obvious that Etcheverry was, by far, the most skilled player on the team!
You only had to watch the run of play on the field to see that Etcheverry was playing the game 2, 3, maybe 4 seconds faster than all of his teammates.
On a give&go, they would pass the ball to Etcheverry,... and stand there, and watch him!?!? Give&...GO!!!GO!!!GO!!!
It took a while.
All season long! Until the rain soaked MLS League Championship game.
Ohhhh. That game!!! Those players!!! I still cry.
Now..., we all love you Marco, and Jaime, but why can't you find DC United another favorite son of BOLIVIA?! To show us the way!
Is the Tahuichi legacy over? I can't believe it.
So? Marco? Jaime?
The challenge is to you! DC United could be yours. Not just a memory.
And. The team must stay in DC!

El Diablo is definitely among one of MLS's all time top players.
With Jaime leaving pretty soon, the dynasty of the Bolivian era will come to an end.
Not that DC United cares.
