Guerrero and Honduras advance

United midfielder/defender Ivan Guerrero earned his 75th cap and played the entire 90 minutes during Honduras’ 1-0 victory over Mexico last night.
Los Catrachos have not lost at home to Mexico in over 20 years and last night proved to be no exception. The game’s sole goal came in the 52nd minute, after Mexico defender Ricardo Osorio deflected the ball off the crossbar and into his own net after a corner kick.
Mexico has now lost three consecutive World Cup qualifiers in San Pedro Sula, their only win coming in February 28, 1965. The result meant Honduras finished atop CONCACAF second-round qualifying Group B with 12 points, two more than Mexico. Both teams will now move on the final round of qualifying, where they will play the United States, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago and El Salvador for spots in the World Cup.
