Champions League update: Recap

With all of this week’s CONCACAF Champions League matches played, several teams established themselves as early front-runners to advance to the next round of the region’s most important tournament.
In D.C. United’s group, Marathon took the top spot with the 2-0 win against the Black-and-Red. Group A also saw Cruz Azul thrash Saprissa 4-0 on Tuesday night.
Wednesday night, UNAM defeated Firpo to take Group B’s top spot. The other MLS representative, the Houston Dynamo, played a scoreless draw with Panama's San Francisco to earn a road point.
Group C saw Impact de Montreal and Atlante play to a scoreless tie and put themselves atop the group, while Olimpia topped Joe Public 3-1.
The Puerto Rico Islanders continued their surprising run Tuesday night by defeating reigning Mexican Clausura champions Santos Laguna 3-1, giving the Islanders the early lead in the Group D standings. Last night, Tauro defeated Municipal 2-1.
