¡Gonzalo Goalazo!
06/24/2008 10:55 AM by Kyle Sheldon
Our players are really good at scoring sick goals. This week, it was Gonzalo Martinez who unleashed an absolute rocket from the left side of the box to the far post. And now, the defender is one of five nominations for Goal of the Week. Remember how Simms won last week? Well, the possibility exists that we could bring home our fifth - FIFTH - Sierra Mist Goal of the Week of 2008. I don't know what the record is for most Goal of the Week wins in one year, but let's go for it, eh? I'll ask the guys to keep scoring ridiculous goals as long as you agree to keep voting.
Watch Gonzalo's goal here and vote here.
(Are you happy Section 130?)
UPDATE: Gonzalo's goal won! That's three Goal of the Week winners in a row. Let's make it four, eh?

The record for Goals of the Week wins in a season already belongs to DC, as they had 7 in 2004. DC also has the all-time lead with 24, 9 wins ahead of RSL, who has 15. The record for consecutive GOTW wins is 3, accomplished twice, once by RSL in 2005 and Houston in 2007. If DC wins this week, they will also have 3 in a row for the first time in team history. They have won nearly 20% of the GOTW's since voting started in 2004.

BurchFan4 - you part of the GOTW street team or something?
Kyle - we definitely need a sick goal this sunday so we can break the consecutive streak record.

BurchFan4 - that's impressive.
Bree - I'm with you.. any suggestions on who I should ask to score it? It needs to be super sick..

I had to do this statistical analysis kinda project for a class last semester and I did it using the GOTW data from mlsnet.com, it was all saved in a spreadsheet lol...I'm definitely NOT the nerdy type..
Can we get Burch to hit like a 40 yard bomb? That'll win a GOTW....if not then I'm pulling for Jaime to do it with a vintage 40 yard run into the box with a nifty finish!

BurchFan4 is confused and really wants Namoff to score, not Burch or Jaime.

Well.. it is Y.O.N.
YEAR OF NAMOFF.

Why yes I'm happy Kyle, thanks for asking.
Vote early, vote often kids.

Actually, strike that, I'm not COMPLETELY happy. Chalo's dance could have used a little bit of tweaking.

It kind of reminded me of someone learning how to tap dance...

Totally off topic, but the songs on the DC United website are wrong:
http://dcunited.mlsnet.com/t103/fans/supporters/lyrics/
It says "We're all part of Nowak's army" instead of Tommy's. I thought you guys might be the ones who could fix it.

I'd like to see Peralta score another, on a corner kick, just skimming off the head. That'll be nice.
Or, of course, can not forget Emillio, to continue his goal scoring streak, but ultimately, I think this one should go to Fred.
He's been trying, I can see it in his play. He wants that goal. He deserves a sick one.
GO FRED!!

when's the last time Jaime made a 40 yard run!?!
;-)

I wouldn't mind BURCH nailing a curling 35-yard strike from the right or left flank. I mean, jeez, he's the nerd in all of this conversation, right? It feels only fitting that the man score a deserving goal on the 30th (30th minute, perhaps?) against the Galaxy.

It would be great for Burch to score against his former team I'm sure...
