Giveaway! Win tickets to DCU vs. LA Galaxy

06/26/2008 8:30 AM by Kyle Sheldon

062308_GORDON_P.jpg

BehindTheBadge.com is giving away four tickets to next Sunday's match between D.C. United and the LA Galaxy.  Not only that, but we're throwing in a D.C. United replica home jersey for the winner, which can be customized to include any United player's name and number on the back.  Pretty good, right?  We're not done. We're also throwing in a 2008 D.C. United media guide signed by the entire 2008 squad.

Want to know how to win?  It's really easy.

  1. Register for a BehindTheBadge.com account (you can do that by clicking on the comments link below and following the instructions).

  2. Edit your profile and upload a sweet image of some sort (keep it clean, or I'll disqualify you like crazy).

  3. Comment on this very post with a score prediction for the game.

On Friday (6/27), we'll randomly pick a winner from those who have commented.  Then, we'll send you an email if you're the winner. Good luck.  As if that weren't enough... following Sunday's game, we'll randomly pick one person from all of the folks who correctly predicted the score and award a D.C. United hat and scarf.

Man, I'm good to you.

PS - We reserve every right to do whatever the heck we want with this contest.  And, if you're not feeling lucky, you should buy tickets soon so as to get good seats (they're going fast!).  Do that here

UPDATE #1: Lots of great avatars (that's what they're called, right?) and predictions for the giveaway. Keep 'em coming!  Did we mention you'll get to see Troy Roberts in action?!

UPDATE #2:  Josh Tudela will be there!  You can watch him play soccer (maybe)! Only a day and a half to get your comment in below...

UPDATE #3:  Today is the last day to get your score predictions into the comments section.  Did you know you might see Alan Gordon on Sunday?!

UPDATE #4: Congratulations to RayWhitney who was randomly picked by one of our community relations interns as the contest winner!  I'm particularly pleased, because not only did R-dub pick D.C. to win, but his post was particularly witty, as well.  Congrats and enjoy the game (and the other prizes!).  We'll be back with more contests with even better prizes, so keep checking back...

As the first post, I already think that gives me a leg up.

Final Score (call your bookies, this pick is a slam dunk): DCU, 3 LAG 2.

LA is a scoring machine this year, but their defense is suspect. So is Zach Wells. High Score, hear we come!

*Didn't have any good pictures to upload, so I just chose one that fits with my name - Limarzi will like it, at least.

pic's from the Camp Nou. (note the old jersey which I am eager to replace)

Score will be 2-1 to United. Landon will convert a questionable penalty for LA's only goal. Spain will beat Germany for the Euro 2008 title shortly thereafter.

    Final score DCU3 LAG2.

As long as LA has their current back line they may score a lot but they won't be able to beat a good team.

DC 2 - LA 1. Both teams are pumped for the game, we let a squeeker in by Donovan. Emilio & Gallardo both punch one in.

While I would love to see United get a clean sheet for the first time this season, I don't see it happening. It should still be an entertaining game though, and DC will continue to climb up the table.

DC United 4 : Los Angeles Galaxy 3.

  • user avatar

    06/23/2008 9:00 AM by VamosDCU

3-1. I think after LA gets one in, DC will be too fired up to score any less than 3 goals.
As for my icon, it's an homage to United's bright future. A sponsorship with V-Dub and some up and coming talent (Stratty and D-Murph!). Props to Dan Steinberg's blog(the other entertaining though slightly less soccer filled blog of DC) for the picture.

oh oh oh i wanna play too. I say 2-1 to the black and red. Imilio continues his streak and Q earns some redemption. Becks sets up LD for a goal from a cross which welss prolly should've got...oh well it wont matter in the end. Go DC!!

Really people? Really? Only one person has picked the Galaxy so far. With the way they're playing? True, DC is pretty much at equal form, but 33 pro-DC votes and 1 pro-LA is just crazy.

Hopefully I'm the erroneous hack who gets this wrong. But here's my pick: LA 2, DC 2

hahahah...and I can't even pick 'em. It's true, both squads are pretty equal in form right now. Edson Buddle scares me, as does Becks and Sean Franklin in the back. But DC plays some of the most entertaining football in MLS right now. And the back four has clearly found something it lacked earlier in the season. I say goals by Emilio, Burch...on the Galaxy side, goals by Buddle and Becks

  • user avatar

  • user avatar

    06/23/2008 11:33 AM by loosek

Niell will burst on to the scene as a second half sub and will bedevil the Galaxy back line for 2 golazos in a comeback victory.

Ben will rush from the bench at the final whistle to try to claims Becks' sweat-soaked jersey for a second straight year, only to be cut off at the pass by a starstruck Bryan Namoff.

    DC- 2
    LA - 1

  • user avatar

    06/23/2008 11:37 AM by EdTheRed

Hmmmm...DCU 5 - 4 LA, Emilio with 2, Gallardo with 1, Jaime with 1, Simms keeps his streak alive with 1. Beck-Ham with 1 off a free kick, Donovan with 2, just because we won't be able to stop taunting him, and he seems to love being taunted, and Buddle with 1 off a Wells bobble (come on, reverse jinx!).

  • user avatar

    06/23/2008 11:50 AM by GWUnited

    Im going with DCU[2] LAG[1].

LAG defeats since May (2-1,2-1,1-0,2-0). DCU victories since May (3-2,2-1,4-1,3-1). Average LAG goals against equals 2. Average goals against DCU equals 1. Therefore I predict the above score line.

LA -- Edson Buddle (penalty kick) 20
DC -- Jaime Moreno (Marcelo Gallardo) 38
DC -- Bryan Namoff (Gonzalo Martinez) 90+

Donovan falls in the box early in the first half after being knocked from behind by Buddle on a corner kick. The referee was apparently watching another game and grants LA a penalty. While Donovan is side lined with the injury he sustained, Buddle slots a simple shot past Wells.
Later in the half, the audience is captured in silence as Fred, Gallardo and Moreno work a little soccer magic. What Goff would later call "a moment of pure soccer brilliance," set the stadium ablaze. Fred receives a powerful pass from Martinez, turns and then pulls a "maradona" past one player and then immediately upon landing slots a pass to Gallardo between Beckham's legs. Gallardo turns to goal and in Ronaldo like fashion blows by two defenders on the left flank. Fans already off their feet slowly open their eyes wider and wider as Gallardo chips the ball into the air around 8 yards out. As if possessed by a bit of magic Moreno, launches himself in the air, twisting his right boot above his head. The ball crashes against his cleat and into the back of the net, only to leave Canon and the LA Galaxy dumbfounded.
After 90min of grueling soccer each side seems to accept the destiny of a draw. Opportunities abound during the second half, but neither team seems to be able to finish. As the fourth official raises his electronic board, parts of the crowd begin to filter out of the stadium. In a moment that would leave even the Screaming Eagles and Barra Brava scratching their heads, Martinez makes a surgical strike across field to Namoff, who found himself oddly out of position. The defense, not knowing Namoff's powerful scoring ability, back off only to immediately regret their decision. A 20 yard strike sizzles by Canon, who finds himself once again wide eyed.

Game final Score 2-1 Shoot out DC. A heavy score
it won't be. LA will test the "Metal" of the DC
Defense, and personally I would call the match even
if Our Guys can maintain and not become drawn into
18 yard foul diving initiative. We got to keep it clean guys,LA has the draw off and the foul dive down pat. We have the skill,we have the stamina,
if we can keep the "shadow Mark " on Beckham he
won't count for much except signing autographs and
    getting page 3 Photo Ops.

Wow! this is going to be the game of the year for the MLS!!!
Two of the most explosive offenses in MLS and I hope to see a lot of goals in this game!
DC United is more on fire and LA's defense in leaky. So, I have DC winning 3-2!

    We attended our first DC United game last year and enjoyed it completely. Enjoyed the fans and the enthusiasm of the crowd. It was a very exciting game and we hope to be able to attend more. {Hint Hint}

    Score: DC 4 LA 2

No doubt in my mind we're the much better team when we show up to play, and I think the boys will step up for the big occasion. The real clincher for me though is the weather. Whether it's a humid, 90 degree DC day or we see some pretty heavy rainshowers, our west coast friends/enemies won't be able to handle it.

Then there's last year's game at RFK; a meager 1-0. We've all got pretty high scoring predictions, but history might just be against us.

NOTE TO KYLE: Friday the 27th is my 28th birthday. Winning this contest and following it up with a 4-2 victory on Sunday would really be a great present. Wouldn't you love the feeling of satisfaction that comes along with knowing you've given me the best birthday present I've ever received?

Okay, so just by a rough estimate so far, we have

85 some odd pro-DC votes, two ties and two pro-LA votes.

    WOWWWWWWWWW.

    Dear Come Back 14 -

The big 2-8, eh? That's a pretty exciting birthday. I'm not sure that a feeling of satisfaction is enough of a incentive... got anything else? :)

    I'm changing it.
    DC 3 LA 1
Emilio and Buddle are hot right now, so they both will score one. Jaime will also get a goal in the run of paly, and either Fred, Moreno or Gallardo'll score the last one.

    Scoring Summary
    DC 1 LA 0 (Emilio) 14th
    DC 1 LA 1 (Buddle) 25th
    DC 2 LA 1 (Moreno) 48th
    DC 3 LA 1 (Gallardo) 72nd

    13 smokebombs, 1 fan run-on, 3 more points

The only other thing I've got is that when I'm in the stadium United doesn't lose . . . or even draw for that matter (at least not in 2008).

Games I've made it to so far this year: 4/9 Pachuca (2-1), 4/5 Toronto (4-1), 4/26 RSL (4-1), and 6/14 NY Red Bulls (4-1). I think you'll notice a pattern. Whenever I sit at home and watch on ESPN (and I might remind you the ABC broadcast is "part of the ESPN family of networks"), United under-perform; when I'm in the stadium they win . . . and usually score four goals in the process.

I know, I know, there are a couple of other variables involved and the logic behind my hypothesis may not be entirely sound. But if you choose to give those tickets to someone else and United manage to lose to LA, are you going to be able to sleep at night?

    I'm going with a 2-2 tie.

Nice to see all the new posters, but I'm still the only one with an avatar that features a DC player with 50 Cent.

    Sirs et Mesdames:

The noble knights of DC shall smite those pretenders to greatness known as the Galaxy by a score of four elegant goals to three scrappy and opportunistic goals.

A national television audience will be shocked to witness Mademoiselle Landycakes explode from frustration as she is marked out of the game by Martinez.

Emilio adds to his tally, as Gallardo proves to be the class of the league--masterfully conducting United to a harmonious victory.

    There it is.

DC United 5-0. Moreno tallies a a goal and 4 assists, his best to Clyde Simms who wins goal of the week with a strike from midfield. With the help of a very solid back-line, Zach Wells finally keeps the sheet(s) clean.

Final whistle at 90 minutes (no stoppage) as Martinez thinks about a hard challenge to Donovan but pulls up at the last second to keep young Landon fit for US National Team duties.

    The raining beer does happen.
