Final training session
04/01/2008 1:58 AM by Kyle Sheldon

The team got their first look at Pachuca's home this evening - Estadio Hidalgo. It's quite the building, with a capacity of approximately 33,000 and not a bad seat in the house. The closest seats are within five yards of the field, though the 15-foot high chain link fence - topped with barb wire - discourages fans from entering the field of play (we hope). It will be interesting to see what the atmosphere is like tomorrow - especially after hearing numerous stories about the various things that get thrown at the opposing team during the game.
Tonight, Head Coach Tom Soehn ran the players through about 60 minutes of training - a long warm-up, possession work and finishing. Following training the team had dinner together and then watched some video on Pachuca.
Not familiar with Estadio Hidalgo? I added a handful of photos of the stadium from tonight's training session, so check out Video & Pics. All kinds of angles and perspectives, including a shot of the locker room that we'll use tomorrow night.

I hope the boys can get an early goal and then defend like heck looking for a counter. The last 20 minutes are going to be tough.
I love the blog by the way!

Any Mexican caught throwing anything at the field should be removed from the stadium and jailed. That is the worst thing about playing in Mexico. You have to worry about someone throwing feces on you. Dirty fans and dirty players. In regards to futbol, Mexico is DIRTY. The National team is the worst, but the club teams seem to follow suit. Add a bunch of dirty fans in to the equation and you have a nasty fight on your hands.
D.C. United will overcome their dirty tactics and then we'll show the Mexican fans how it's done properly when they come back to RFK. While we will throw out some foul language, we won't throw any excrement.
Stay clean and stay classy D.C. United players and fans. We will overcome and we will prevail.
Off to Japan in January 2009!!!!!!!!

Hey Smitty,
Holding in your feelings will lead to ulcers and such. You should really just say how you feel ;-)

Great blog and site. This is the first site I have ever seen where you can get an inside look at a stadium and the locker rooms!
Awesome. The closer the fan feels to the players, the more the fan dedicates him/herself to the team!
VAMOS UNITED!

When United Stadium is finally built, I hope they remember to do the badge (or at least "DC United" in black and red) in the seats. It is so sad to see American pitches without those details that make a stadium look like a proper football stadium.
VAMOS UNITED!!!
